Many kinds of food knowledge, one equal liking response
The Good Taste Awards assessor pool includes screened potential consumers, disciplined food enthusiasts and relevant professionals. They bring different forms of experience to the same controlled task.
Every assigned eligible assessor records one Overall Liking response on equal weight. The consumer side remains a strict majority at every decision point.
Potential consumers meet the product's Target Population criteria and can take part responsibly. They do not need a professional title or technical vocabulary.
Their value lies in authentic, relevant response combined with task understanding, independence and integrity.
Food enthusiasts are consumer-side assessors who also demonstrate disciplined interest and an ability to describe their experience clearly. They remain on the consumer-side track; enthusiasm does not create a professional vote or extra authority.
Professional assessors have relevant verifiable experience and controlled sensory and confirmation competence. The pool can draw from food production, culinary work, beverage practice, buying, retail, hospitality, food writing, sensory work and category knowledge.
Professional relevance is scoped. Experience with one category does not create universal authorization across every food and drink.
Products come from varied traditions and consumption contexts. The method does not attempt to erase those differences or impose a single global ideal.
Target Population, ordinary use and product category guide assignment. The result remains a controlled small-panel finding within that defined boundary.

It does not teach a preferred flavour profile, force agreement with a reference answer or convert personal liking into expert conformity.
Professionals contribute useful language after responses are locked. They may distinguish intensity from balance, describe texture development or identify a suspected sensory defect more precisely.
Where assigned, they also perform bounded confirmation. They cannot raise a product above the calculated candidate or replace consumer-side evidence with their own judgment.
The assessor declares and updates relevant conflicts. Assignment also considers repeated product exposure, workload, intensity, alcohol, category competence and temporary sensory condition.
Entrants cannot nominate, choose or veto individual assessors. Assignment remains an administrative responsibility.
Good Taste Awards may explain the assessor community in aggregate. Individual consumer-side identities, responses, conflicts and qualification records remain protected.
A professional profile may be published only with authorization and verified information. Public visibility is not a condition of professional qualification.
The Panel Lead keeps discussion neutral, includes minority observations and protects evidence discipline. The role does not carry an extra vote.
Where the Panel Lead is also an assigned assessor, the independent response is recorded first. The same person does not prepare or serve the product, control the blind identity, authorize the result or independently review the same evidence.
Participation, confidentiality, conflicts and task conduct are monitored. Legitimate disagreement is not penalized.
The system looks for invalid behaviour or repeated failure to use the task properly, not for assessors whose personal response happens to differ from the majority.
Assessor candidacy is open to people who can meet the applicable relevance, integrity, independence and participation requirements. Application does not guarantee qualification, assignment frequency or access to a particular product.
