Privacy Notice

Who this notice is for

This notice explains how Good Taste Awards handles personal data when a person uses the website, enters a product, applies or serves as an assessor, receives an award, contacts the team or reports a concern.

A secure service may provide more specific privacy information at the point where it requests data. That information supplements this notice for the service concerned.

Information we may receive

The information depends on how a person takes part. It may include:

  • name, role, organization and contact details;
  • account and authentication information;
  • entry, transaction and shipment records linked to an organization or product;
  • assessor experience, qualifications, availability, conflicts and participation records;
  • limited allergy, dietary, accessibility or suitability information needed for responsible participation;
  • enquiries, reviews, complaints, corrections and supporting evidence;
  • result-verification and award-mark records;
  • communication preferences;
  • website, device, security and audit information described further in the Cookie Notice.

Do not send passwords or full payment-card details through a general contact message. Use the secure payment or account service provided for that task.

Why the information is used

Personal data may be used to:

  1. provide and protect a requested website, entry, account or verification service;
  2. review product eligibility and administer entries;
  3. receive and identify samples;
  4. screen and assign assessors while managing conflicts and participation restrictions;
  5. conduct blind assessments without revealing product identity to assessors;
  6. issue results, comments and award resources;
  7. administer reviews, corrections and suspected misuse;
  8. preserve evidence needed for accuracy, security and procedural integrity;
  9. answer enquiries and provide support;
  10. publish information approved for a product, producer, result or contributor profile;
  11. meet an applicable legal, regulatory or evidential obligation.

Information gathered for one purpose is not automatically used for an unrelated purpose. Where a materially different use requires further information or choice, it is provided before that use applies.

Participation and assessment privacy

Some assessments require limited information about allergies, dietary exclusions, accessibility or another participation condition. This information is used only where needed to protect the person, determine a suitable assignment or provide access.

It does not contribute to a product's taste result and is not disclosed to entrants as assessor-level information. Entrants do not receive the identities or individual responses of the people who assessed their product through the ordinary result process.

Who may receive information

Access is limited according to responsibility. Relevant information may be available to confirmed personnel and providers supporting entry administration, payment, sample logistics, assessment sessions, technology, communication, professional advice, security or records management.

Only information needed for the assigned task should be shared. A provider does not gain authority over a product's star merely because it supplies an administrative or technical service.

Information may also be disclosed where required by applicable law, a competent authority, protection of legal rights or investigation of suspected fraud, security failure or award misuse.

What may be public

Published award records may identify an awarded product, producer, star, category, comment and verification status. Public result information remains separate from confidential assessment evidence.

An assessor's name, biography, image or general contribution is published only where that person has entered an approved public-participation arrangement. Public identification of an assessor does not reveal which specific products that person assessed.

International handling, retention and security

Participants and service providers may be located in different countries. Where personal data is handled across borders, safeguards appropriate to the circumstances and applicable requirements are used.

Retention depends on the purpose, sensitivity, evidential value, security need and applicable obligation. Contact information does not need to be retained for the same period as original assessment evidence or a public award record. Information no longer required is deleted, anonymized or placed beyond routine use according to the applicable retention rule.

Good Taste Awards applies administrative, technical and physical safeguards appropriate to the information and service involved. No internet service is risk-free; protect account credentials and report suspected unconfirmed access promptly.

Your requests and choices

Depending on the applicable circumstances, a person may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, objection, withdrawal of a choice or information about how personal data is used.

A request should identify the person, the service or record concerned and the action sought. Identity or authority may be verified before data is disclosed or changed. Some requests may be limited where another person's rights, assessment secrecy, security, legal obligations or the integrity of an evidential record must be protected.

Messages needed to administer an entry, result, account, review or assessor assignment are separate from optional news or promotional communication. Changing an optional communication preference does not cancel an active entry or prevent essential service notices.

Children

Entry, assessor and account services are intended for people able to enter the relevant arrangement lawfully. If personal data concerning a child appears to have been provided without appropriate authority, report the concern so it can be assessed.

Ask a question or make a request

Include enough information to locate the relevant service, but do not send passwords, full payment credentials or unnecessary sensitive information. A privacy request is considered separately from a product-result review.
